Those numbers are what the VHSL uses for classafcations plus if I am not mistaken they now use 9th-12th grade enrollment (Does not matter if 9th grade is in a middle school and not a high school thay still count for VHS VHSL numbers)

Burton currently has 189. Only 80 are male students. The football team will be graduating 11 players (7 starters) this year and 9 players (6 starters) next year. I don't know where 204 came from, unless that is an old number or Burton had some students transfer out after it was sent to VHSL.
You're just mad cause the voices don't talk to you.

That could be the case as the numbers are taken every other year and then used for 2 years not sure when the VHSL gets the numbers for the next 2 years (or if they already have them)

Re: A AA AAA AAAA AAAAA format

I've been reading alot on the 1A-5A topic. Personally, I always thought Going to 6A would be easiest cuz there are already 6 divisions in the current A-AAA system. But, I figured I'd see how the classes would look if the VHSL went to an A-AAAAA system based entirely on the last enrollment figures. There are 302 schools listed on the VHSL page with the school enrollments. I divided that 5 ways and added the 2 extra schools to Class A. So all the classes have 60 except A and it has 62. I'm only listing what classes A-AAA would look like. There are some surprises:

A- Surry, Chesterfield Comm., Charles City, App. Reg. Gov., West Point, King & Queen, Colonial Beach, Rappahannock, Chicoteague, William Campbell, Rappahannock Co., Eastern Montgomery, Auburn, Parry McCleur, Highland, Craig County, Covington, Bath County, Pocahontas, Narrows, Galax, Bland/Rocky Gap, Rural Retreat, Northwood, Holston, Twin Valley, Hurley, Honaker, Haysi, Council, Thomas Walker, Twin Springs, St. Paul, Rye Cove, Ervinton, Coeburn, Castlewood, Appalachia, Burton, Clintwood, Pound, Radford, Altavista, Northumberland, Franklin, Sussex, Mathews, George Whythe (W), Chilhowie, Middlesex, Patrick Henry (GS), Lancaster, Briar Woods, Powell Valley, Ft. Chiswell, James River, JJ Kelly, Grundy, Windsor, Essex, Graham, and Luray.

AA- Central (W), Arcadia, Nandua, Northhampton, Stuarts Draft, Washington and Lee, King William, Bruton, Blue Stone, Brunswick, Nottoway, Park View, Marion, Freedom, Richlands, Patrick Co., Tazewell, Thomas Jefferson, Walker, J. Battle, Gate City, Lebanon, VA High, New Kent, Lee, James Monroe, Grayson Co., Greensville, Floyd Co., Giles, Glenvar, Clarke Co., Madison, Mannassas Park, George Mason, Strasburg, Amelia, Buckingham, Central (Lunenburg), Buffalo Gap, S.W. Jackson, Prince Edward, Page, Riverheads, Wilson Memorial, Appamattox, Chatham, Dan River, Gretna, Nelson Co., William Monroe, Alleghany, Rustburg, R.E. Lee (ST), Waynesboro, Cave Spring, Tunstall, Martinsville, Poquoson, and Ft. Defiance.

AAA- Courtland, Spotsylvania, Grafton, Tabb, Huguenot, Hanover, Loudon, King George, Park View (ST), Brentsville, Smithfield, South Hampton, York, Spotswood, Harrisonburg, Fluvanna, Blacksburg, Monticello, West Albermarle, Dominion, Handley, Millbrook, Carrol Co., Lord Botetourt, Northside, Brookville, Heritave (LY), Liberty (Bed), Bassett, Staunton River, Broadway, Turner Ashby, Magnavista, Lakeland, Nansmond River, Jameswood, Rock Bridge, Christiansburg, George Wythe (R), John Marshall, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Armstrong, Norcom, Abingdon, Powhatan, Salem (S), Hidden Valley, William Bird, Caroline, Chancellor, Sherando, Charlottesville, Louisa, Orange, Cosby, Jefferson Forest, Woodrow Wilson, George Marshall, and B.T. Washington.

Really, it looks alot like it did pre 1986 before there was a such thing as divisions. In a 5A format, smaller schools would still compete against much larger schools...but not to the extent they do now. Just my thoughts.

Re: A AA AAA AAAA AAAAA format

    Simple division 1=A
    Divsion 2=AA
    Division 3=AAA
    Divsion 4=AAAA
    Division 5=AAAAA
    Division 6=AAAAAA

that makes the most sense to me..

Re: A AA AAA AAAA AAAAA format

that 1-6A with the way the VHSL stands currently does not sound like that bad of an idea. TSSAA has 1-5A in football and there have been no real complaints about the system. The system works well for the 1A schools as it does the 5A. I've worked with schools in TN that were 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A. No complaints from any. And, once football season is over (or you have a daughter who plays soccer or volleyball in the fall during football season) the groupings go back to A, AA, and AAA, which is what everybody here is used to anyway. It's not that painful a change. You just have to get your enrollment numbers set.
Looking for my Darcy, but finding only Wickham. Right now, I'd settle for Bingley.

Re: A AA AAA AAAA AAAAA format

The difference in this and what our divisions are like now is that here the attendance in all schools state wide was used instead of applying the halves according to region.

Exactly why there should be no Regions.

Re: A AA AAA AAAA AAAAA format

You could do this and still have regions. When the divisions were implemented in 1986 there was a cut off for each division attendance wise statewide. It wasn't changed until around 2000 that the attendance would be applied to each individual region to produce equal halves. That is where the divisions were messed up. If the numbers were constant for each region it would produce what was in place before the equal halves..6 divisions with fairly equal sized schools in each region. If it was broken down into 5A.....A, AA, and AAA would look like it does in the previous post.
